HANNAM’S EASTER AUCTION RISES TO SUCCESS.

Hannam’s Auctioneers continued with their monthly two day auction with their largest to date. Selling 1,481 items, ranging from Oriental works of art, to English porcelain, to silver and Jewellery. With 1,566 approved online bidders, it was the largest audience Hannam’s have had in their history. Along with a busy auction room and numerous telephone bidders the sale proved a great success.

Hannam’s oriental section shunned all rumours that the Oriental market is in decline by achieving fantastic prices for wonderful works of art. A few Japanese items that caught the eye were a superb 19th century Japanese Meiji period tusk vase and cover, selling for £6,000. A lovely 19th century Japanese Mejii period boxwood okimono modelled as numerous rats with hardstone eyes, selling for £3,000. An 18th century Chinese sang du boeuf porcelain tazza Qianlong mark and period, supported upon a flared stem, and a fine 17^th century Chinese carved soapstone figure of a Buddha, selling for £5,000 and £5,500 respectively.

The biggest surprise for the Hannam’s staff came in the form of a lovely early 20th century French multi layered glass vase which could possibly by Daum. Estimated at only £60–80, and consigned from house valuation in Send, Surrey, the item had lots of attention the moment it was advertised online on Hannam’s three bidding platforms. Along with two telephone bidders and bids from across the world, the lovely glass vase eventually sold for £5,800 to a continental buyer.

Other items that stood out were a stunning 19th century French ormolu and Sevres porcelain clock garniture that sold for £3,000, and a good large pair of Victorian Sheffield silver twin branch candelabra also for £3,000.
