CLOCK REUNITED WITH FAMILY AFTER 250 YEARS

A George III ebonised bracket clock by Thomas Washbourne has been reunited with the Washbourne family after it was discovered in Hannam’s Auctioneers November auction by a descendant of the London clockmaker. Thomas Washbourne is recorded in G.H. Baillie, ‘Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World’ as working in London from before 1744 until his death in 1756. Consigned locally from a private collection, the bracket clock, standing 50cm tall, sold for £6,000 to the clockmaker’s family, who were bidding in the room during the three-day 3,009 lot auction.

The star item in Hannam’s auction was an interesting 18th Century Korean vase. Consigned from an estate in the North of England, the blue and white vase, estimated at just £80-120 sold to a bidder for £35,000 who flew over to the saleroom in Selborne to purchase the item. In addition to this, the gentleman also purchased a Korean water dropper in the form of a Buddhistic Lion for £12,000.
