DIAMOND RING SHINES THROUGH AT AUCTION

One month down the line and Hannam’s Auctioneers, of Selborne, have broken their own record by putting together their largest sale to date. Spread over two days, Hannam’s auctioned off 1,683 antique and collectables, varying from Chinese and Japanese works of art, to Silver and Gold, and antique Jewellery.

A major highlight of the sale was a stunning 18ct yellow and diamond ring the single stone weighing nearly 4cts, selling for £9,500. The wonderful stone, consigned locally brought a lot of interest from telephone bidders, with 4 telephone bidders fighting over the wonderful item.

The Oriental market is still strong, with a superb late 19th century Japanese carved hardwood Shibayama cabinet, standing over 6 foot tall, with ivory and mother of pearl inlay, selling for £9,500 to an online bidder . With 1,569 approved registered bidders online from three different platforms, the power of the internet cannot be ignored when it comes to the antique industry.

An interesting item within the auction was an Edwin George Lucas (1911-1990) Oil on canvas, depicting a cubist scene. This oil stood 6ft 8ins tall and 4ft 3ins wide and was discovered by the vendor inside an old barn. Again, with a lot of interest from internet bidders, this fascinating lot finally went for £3,800 to a telephone bidder.

Other highlights from the sale included a fine 19th century French ormolu and sevres porcelain clock garniture for £3,000. A fine antique Persian red ground silk carpet, which had four telephone bidders sold for £2,800. And a very unusual early 19th century station or school clock by George Yonge, strand, London, consigned locally, again with multiple telephone bidders, selling for £2,600.

Hannam’s Auctioneers have free valuation days in Bishops Waltham, Wickham, Petersfield, Liphook and Rowledge over the next three months. For further details please call the office on 01420 511788. Their next fine art auction will be on 27th May, and Hannam’s invite the public to consign their items for this sale.
