INESE ‘ISLAMIC MARKET’ VESSEL BREAKS AUCTION HOUSE RECORD

Hannam’s Auctioneers, of Selborne are delighted to announce that they sold a Chinese ‘Islamic market’ blue and white globular vessel in their September auction for £70,000. This is a new record for Hannam’s Auctioneers, who are currently in their second year since opening last summer. The Blue and white vessel, highlighted in iron red with scrolling foliage and vines. This sale shows how rapidly Hannam’s Auctioneers have grown in such a short period of time. With items being consigned from all over the country, and purchasers bidding via the internet and telephone from all corners of the world, the local business is flourishing. Three censers consigned from a Surrey estate, sold in the auction for £2000, £3800 & £2400 respectively.

Other notable items that sold in their September fine art auction were a fine late 19th century Chinese export silver four piece tea service by Luenwo for £13,000. A Chinese blue and white circular dish also sold for £4,200 as well as a good Chinese porcelain baluster jar and cover Daoguang mark £2,800.  A beautifully carved Roman statue base, dating back to 1st Century AD was entered by a local gentleman, selling for £3,000.

An interesting item that caught a lot of customer’s attention during the view days prior to the auction was a landscape oil on canvas in the manner of Joseph Mallord William Turner. With plenty of condition reports and public interest, the large framed oil commanded plenty of attention when selling for £3,400 to a telephone bidder.
