SÈVRES PORCELAIN TEA SET SHOCKS AUCTION
A beautiful 19th century Sèvres porcelain tea for two set on tray painted with figural panels, with jewelled decoration stunned the staff at Hannam’s Auctioneers when it sold during their three day fine art auction for £17,000.
The wonderful eight piece service, only 34cm wide, was consigned locally and valued at only £3,000, but internet interest along with telephone bidders from Europe soon brought the hammer price up to the staggering amount stated.
Two other pieces that sold for much more than their estimate were a fine and rare large pair of 19th century Japanese Meiji period twin handled bronze vases and stands in the manner of Otake Norikuno for £15,500. Also a stunning 19th century Scottish carved white marble figure of a classical female by Lawrence MacDonald sold for £12,750.
With 2,148 lots spread over three days for the first time at Hannam’s Auctioneers, there was a wide array of antiquities from across the world for all types of collectors. From English and Continental Porcelain to Silver and Jewellery, and Oriental Works of Art to Clocks and Watches.
Hannam’s invite the public to their saleroom in Selborne throughout the week for coffee or tea and they also offer free valuations every Monday from 10am till 2pm. Their next Fine Art auction will be on Wednesday 12th, 13th & 14th July, with viewing starting on Monday 10th June from 10am.
