£34,000 WATCH FOUND IN FAMILY DRAWER

A local family couldn’t believe their luck when they heard a grubby wristwatch, they had discovered in the back of their relative’s desk drawer sold at Hannam’s Auctioneers for a hammer price of £34,000.

The extremely rare vintage Compur Universal chronograph wristwatch had the internet and telephone bidders in a frenzy, with people even trying to purchase the item before sale. The style of watch was only produced for 18 months in the 1930’s, and designed for more tropical and colonial conditions, with a casing that was very modern for its time.

Another great surprise for a local couple, was a large bronze bear they consigned after visiting the saleroom, in Selborne. It was discovered that it was Japanese 19th Century Meiji period model by renowned Japanese sculptor Genryusai Seiya, an artist specialising in Animalia Okimono. After going through auction, it sold to a private collector for £5,800.
