LOUIS VUITTON TRUNKS TRAVEL THROUGH AUCTION

A fantastic collection of Louis Vuitton suitcases, trunks and large travelling wardrobes were sold at Hannam’s Auctioneers in their October fine art auction. One of the items, with all the original internal fixtures and fittings, standing over a metre in height sold for £7,000 to an internet bidder. Another smaller similar trunk, with shelves and a hanging rail sold to a telephone bidder for £4,000.

Hannam’s experienced their largest turnout, thanks mainly to the 3,148 approved registered bidders online and the 87 booked telephones. With 2,230 antiques spread over three days, there were many categories available for the bidders in the room and online, from glass and porcelain to oriental and paintings. The new Friday general wares auction is gaining popularity with bidders vying against each other for great bargains and grouped lots.

In the oriental department, a fine and rare 19th century Japanese Meiji period Komai iron koro and cover wonderfully decorated all over with extensive landscapes sold for £6,000, and a large 19th century Chinese export silver box and cover sold for £5,000. A fine early 19th century Chinese carved rosewood bracket clock attributed to Wong Yih Shing sold for £3,000 and two lovely French champlevé enamel repeating carriage clocks also sold, for a combined hammer price of £6,000.

Hannam’s invite the public to their saleroom in Selborne throughout the week and they also offer free valuations every Monday from 10am till 2pm. Their next Fine Art auction will be on 8th, 9th & 10th November, with viewing starting on Monday 6th November from 10am.
