RARE DIRTY DOZEN WRISTWATCH SELLS AT AUCTION

Once again, Hannam’s Auctioneers led the way by hosting another online auction this month. With demand for auctions from customers not slowing down despite Covid-19, Hannam’s hosted an online only 700-lot auction on the 1st June with great success.

The most desirable items, and as always, a popular category within the auction industry, were two watches, one catalogued with little expectations. The rare 1940s Longines ‘Dirty Dozen’ Military wristwatch, manufactured in 1495, was only estimated at £300-500, but gained the most interest from online bidders. With multiple telephone bidders, and absentee bids on all three platforms, the interesting piece eventually sold for £4,800.

The other watch was a boxed collection Privee Cartier 18ct gold ladies’ wristwatch with accompanying papers and certificates. Cartier is such a reputable and sort-after brand, with a strong following for rare and important pieces, that it was at no surprise that this wristwatch sold for £5,000, with plenty of competition.

Despite any fears of a global ban on the sale of ivory, Hannam’s sold a wonderful private collection of Japanese Meiji Period Ivories. With interest from across multiple continents, the seven figures sold for £6,000, which shows that there is still demand for the antique carved works of art.

Hannam’s can also assist by providing a comprehensive professional probate valuation of an estate. They can take the worry out of your hands by helping you value an estate and settle the affairs. Their valuers will provide a professional researched detailed report following an appointment to attend the estate. Some insurers may require or recommend that you have a professional valuation document to support any claims for an item, should something unexpected happen and Hannam’s Auctioneers can offer these insurance valuations. Alternatively, you may wish for a formal valuation of items in your home to ensure you apply the correct insurance policy via the right provider.

Throughout the year Hannam’s will be hosting specialist auctions in between their three-day monthly auctions. These will be available to view the day before and the morning of the sale, and as always, online. The next auctions shall be a two-day auction commencing on 22nd June, followed by an auction on 14th July.
