RARE BLACK FOREST HOUND SURPRISES ALL AT AUCTION

A beautiful early 20th century Bavarian Black Forest figure of a hound modelled with three other puppies by her side sold at Hannam’s Auctioneers for a staggering £15,000. Although the Bavarian style is always desirable within the industry, the hammer price received for this rare model is believed to be one of the best within British auction rooms for this particular style and size. Consigned privately from a local estate in Surrey, estimated at just £2,000, the carving had multiple telephones booked across Europe, and high demand via the three online platforms available at Hannam’s.

Another article that sold well during Hannam’s two day sale was a fine 18th/19th century Arabic carved ivory handled Nimcha sword, with superbly gold inlaid handle forming a stylised lion head, terminating with a shaped steel handle engraved with motifs, the leather bound scabbard also encased within a silver and gold banding. Estimated at £3,000, the striking piece sold to an online bidder for £8,500.
Other notable results within the 1920 lot auction included a good African carved hardwood double ended pillow selling for £3,800. A rare early 20th century French electronic four glass regulator mantel clock signed L.Bardon sold online for £3,400. A fine 19th century Sevres cased porcelain tea for two service painted with scenes of females upon a pink & gilt ground sold for £3,000, and a rare late 19th century Austrian cold painted bronze tortoise by Bergmann sold for £3,000.
