MUSIC BOX HITS THE RIGHT NOTES AT HANNAM’S AUCTIONEERS
All prices exclude buyers premium
Hannam’s auctioneers were celebrating a successful first auction held on July 10th, with a high percentage of selling rates and a busy saleroom, over £200,000 was taken in 500 lots, it bodes well for future auctions, over 500 online bidders had registered for the auction, from over 47 different countries, ensuring fierce competition for prized articles, the top seller consigned for auction was a rather insignificant looking music box, estimated between £800-1200, it soon became clear the box was rather special, contested by six phone lines and subject to much pre sale interest, thought to be only 1 of 20 remaining boxes in private hands, made by Nicole Freres in 1827, the hammer fell for £22,000, selling to a delighted European collector.
Once again Chinese and Japanese works of arts were flavor of the month, a Chinese vase painted with peaches in the style of Emperor Yongzheng sold for £6200, a small Ge type vase made £2600 and a Kangxi Period Yen Yen vase sold for £4000, perhaps more significant was the increase in the realised prices for ivory, with all but one selling in the sale, prices ranged from £300 to £1800 for a well carved okimono.
A selection of Gentlemans articles also created much pre sale interest, a rare Rolex Jump Hour wristwatch sold for £5000 and consigned from the same vendor, a lovely Gentlemans Patek Philippe wristwatch made £2800 & a half hunter pocket watch fetched £1400 under the hammer.
Hannam’s next auction held on September 5th at the Old Dairy, Norton Farm, Selborne, will feature the contents of a local estate, aswell as European and Oriental Works of Art, consignments are invited upto August 5th, Telephone Enquiries to 01420 511788 or for free valuations via our website www.hannamsauctioneers.com.
