RECORD RESULTS SMASH AUCTION BEST

Hannam’s Auctioneers of Selborne recorded their best ever Fine Art Auction at the start of May. With over 2,200 lots, spread over two days the fantastic variety available on offer for bidders was vast and of high quality. With 2,952 approved registered bidders online, 70 telephone bidders booked, and over 100 absentee bidders recorded, the life of an auctioneers is dramatically moving into a new technological era.

With the great success and large influx of antiquities at Hannam’s, they shall now be expanding their Fine Art Auctions across three days, starting Wednesday’s, with viewing from Mondays. Wednesdays will consist of Glass, English and Continental Porcelain, Bronzes, Ornamentals, Objet D’Art, Silver and Jewellery. Thursdays will consist of Clocks, Watches and Oriental Works of Art and Fridays will consist of Furniture, General Wares, Rugs and Paintings.

Notable items from their May auction included a stunning 19th century Russian silver gilt champlevé enamel casket and cover, selling for £8,000. A beautiful 19th century Japanese Meiji period carved ivory shibayama inlaid elephant sold for £7,500 and a good pair of John Frederick Herring oils on canvas of horses in stables sold for £5,000.

Two lovely pieces of jewellery sold well at the end of Hannam’s first day, a good large antique 18ct yellow gold and diamond three stone ring sold for £5,000, and a stunning Victorian rose gold and diamond ladies bangle with large central stones encased within other diamond roundels sold for £3,600.

Another two interesting British items that caught the bidder’s attention were a fine Royal Worcester twin handled vase and cover painted with swans in flight by Charles Baldwyn that sold for £4,000, and a lovely large 19th century cast iron painted four seated garden bench attributed to Dr Christopher Dresser sold for £3,000.

Hannam’s invite the public to their saleroom in Selborne throughout the week for coffee or tea and they also offer free valuations every Monday from 10am till 2pm.
