FLOWERS OUTGROW LOCAL AUCTION

A beautiful collection of German botanical papier-mâché flowers by R Brendel & Co sold at Hannam’s Auctioneers three-day September auction. These models created by Robert Brendel and his son Reinhold during the turn of the 20th Century were distributed throughout Europe to Universities after the First World War to assist with the teaching of botany and mycology. With an estimate of £1,000, the wonderful collection of five sold to a European bidder for £6,000.

Within the Asian department, one item received plenty of presale interest, along with five telephone bidders. The 19th century Japanese Meiji period Shibayama folding screen, wonderfully decorated with ivory and mixed pearls of figures within a landscape bounced between the telephone bidders desperate to claim this wonderful item, eventually settling at £6,5000.

Hannam’s have now moved their monthly three-day auctions to start on Mondays, with their popular large general sales on the Wednesday. The viewing days will now commence the week before the auction on the Thursday and Friday, and we look forward to seeing you there.
Hannam’s invite the public to their saleroom in Selborne throughout the week and they also offer free valuations every Monday from 10am till 2pm. Their next Fine Art auction will be 22nd, 23rd & 24th October with viewing starting on 18th October from 10am.
